                         Pet Monkeys - Types

Pet Spider Monkeys are new world monkeys.  They live in South and Central America.  They are called Spider monkeys because of their long limbs and tails making them look like a spider.  Their Gestation is 5 months and have only one offspring.  Usually Pet Spider Monkeys only have one baby every two years.   They are one of the only monkeys that have a true prehensile tail.  They weight about 28 lbs and grow to be 24in tall (butt to top of head).  They have no thumbs on their hands and look much taller than they are because of their long limbs and carrying their arms above their head when walking. Spiders are sexually mature at 6-7 yrs old. Their life span is 40 yrs.
 
Pet Capuchin Monkeys are new world monkeys.  They live in Central and South America.  These are the most recognizable because they are popularly used in Television and movies. They are also known as organ grinder monkeys.  There are four different species:  Pet White Throated Capuchin Monkeys, Black Cap, Cinnamon, and Weeper Monkeys.  Their gestation is 5 months giving birth to only one offspring.  They have semi-prehensile tails.  They weigh 6-10lbs full grown, are approximately 18 tall and are sexually mature at 6-7 yrs old.  Pet Capuchin Monkeys have a life span of 40yrs.  
 
PetMacaques are old world monkeys.  Most of these large powerful monkeys live in the warm areas of southern Asia.  One species, the Barbary ape, lives in northern Africa.  Another, the Japanese Macaque, lives as far north as Honshu Island, where the snow falls in winter. The Rhesus Macaque Monkey are popularly used for medical research.  There are many different species such as: Java, Rhesus, Pigtail, Snow, Celebes, Stump tail and Lion tail.   Gestation is 5 months giving birth to only one offspring.  Tail lengths range from stubs to very long. They weigh 6-40lbs and are 15-24 inches in height.  Macaques are sexually mature between 3-5 yrs old.  Their life span is approximately 40 yrs.   
Pet Marmoset Monkeys and Pet Tamarin Monkeys are the smallest primates.  Full grown they are only 6 inches tall and weight maybe 1 lb. Pygmy ones are even smaller.  They do have a musk smell similar to a ferret .
Pet Mangabey monkeys are found all across tropical central Africa. Most are found on or near the west coast, though a couple of species reach into Kenya. The Tana River mangabey is found only in Kenya. They all live in forests, though the type of forest varies. Agile mangabeys are only found in tropical rain forests.
The pet bush baby monkey is a loving wonderful companion for the whole family. When cared properly, it's life expectancy is 16-18 years.  It is nocturnal, that means it sleeps during the day and becomes active at 6pm.
Pet Squirrel monkeys are new world monkeys and they live in Central and South America.  Pet Squirrel monkey babies are usually born at the end of the summer (August-Sept.). They weight between 1-2 lbs and are approximately 12 in height.  They are sexually mature by 1- yrs old and their gestation is 5 months giving birth to only one offspring. Their life span is 20 years.
